National Instruments CardBus-8310 Interface Kit
The National Instruments CardBus-8310 Interface Kit is a perfect fit for portable testing applications since it allows direct management of PXI systems from a laptop. The CardBus-to-PXI link is transparent to software applications and drivers, making it easy to use high-performance laptops to manage PXI systems. It is designed for seamless operation. This device is very helpful when used in conjunction with DC-powered PXI chassis for mobility setups like in-vehicle testing.
The interface kit is made up of two main parts: an NI PXI-8310 module that is installed in slot 1 of a PXI chassis and an NI CardBus-8310 card that fits into the laptop's CardBus expansion slot. These parts are joined by cables to form a transparent CardBus-to-PCI bridge, which gives the laptop complete access to PXI modules as though they were internal PCI boards. By utilizing the power, cooling, and synchronization advantages of PXI chassis while maintaining the portability of a laptop, this configuration increases the versatility and capabilities of PXI systems.
StarFabric serial technology is used in the CardBus-8310-to-PXI link to establish a bridge between CardBus and PXI systems. PCI-to-PCI bridging is made possible by StarFabric, which operates at 2.5 Gb/s. This effectively extends the PCI bus over many chassis and greatly increases the number of accessible slots. This sophisticated serial interface is appropriate for rigorous testing conditions because it guarantees synchronization of the system and high-performance data transmission.
A transmitting and receiving CAT5-e cable pair is needed to create the connection between the laptop and the PXI chassis. Depending on what you need for setup, you can choose between cable lengths of 3 m, 10 m, or 14 m.
For laptops with CardBus expansion slots, the CardBus connector offers a very configurable solution because it is compatible with the PCMCIA Specification.
