National Instruments NI-9503 C Series Motor Drive Module
The NI-9503 (Part number: 783285-01) is a C Series Motor Drive Module. It is designed by National Instruments. The NI-9503 is a single-axis motor drive module which enhances integrated stepper motion control of a system without any assistance from a connector block or external power drive. The NI 9503 delivers unified motion assimilation through a control platform and proven measurement. The NI 9503 is structured with an innovative PWM system. This PWM system decreases the torque ripple at a speed of about 1 RPS. It decreases the power loss and the resonance as well. This system improves the micro-stepping. The NI 9503 is directly connectable to unipolar hybrid stepper motors and can connect directly to two-phase bipolar hybrid stepper motors. The device has a motor DC power supply of +9 to +30 VDC, a PWM frequency of 20 kHz, and a current per phase of 3 A RMS (4,24 A peak).
The NI 9503 module is compatible with the LabVIEW FPGA module. It returns the bus voltage and motor current to the LabVIEW FPGA module. It has applications in the PI loop of the current and anti-resonance processes. The NI 9503 also has the capability to control the resonance of the stepper motor. The user can reduce it to 2 RPS. The anti-resonance algorithm permits a stepper motor to use more torque. As a result, the module will run at a greater speed without hedging.
The NI 9503 is featured with software-programmable micro stepping. Micro stepping creates smaller steps by dividing full steps and allows the user to achieve a smooth motion. The NI 9503 supports a micro stepping rate up to 256. A resonance can happen at full stepping; it helps decrease the vibration and torque.
The NI device weighs 5.1 oz. It has a recommended operating temperature range of -40 to 70 °C, a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 °C, operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 95% RH respectively, and random and sinusoidal operating vibrations of 5 grms and 5 g – all at a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz.
