National Instruments NI-9505 C Series Motor Drive Module
The NI-9505 (Part number: 779126-01) is a C Series Motor Drive Module designed by National Instruments. It’s equipped with 3 differential or single-ended input lines. This module contains an integral encoder interface. The NI 9505 offers exclusive flexible features and customization. The NI 9505 is compatible with the LabVIEW FPGA Module. It generates a customized motor drive and actuator amplifier. The LabVIEW FPGA Module produces a PWM signal and directs the signal to the NI 9505. The PWM signal is comparative to the anticipated current or torque. By increasing the PWM duty cycle, the current is raised. Therefore, the torque is also raised. It has a recommended PWM rate of 20 kHz, which could go as high as 40 kHz. The device has a recommended operating temperature range of -40 to 70 °C, a storage temperature range of –40 to 85 °C.
The NI 9505 module allows quadrature encoder signals to pass through it. The signals are treated in the LabVIEW FPGA Module. The signals are used in the position and velocity loops. SoftMotion offers more innovative motion control applications and provides functions for position and velocity PID control and trajectory generation. It can also deliver the blade exclamation and encoder application. SoftMotion does so using both the LabVIEW FPGA Module and LabVIEW Real-Time Module.
The NI-9505 is also flexible with a low-power sleep mode. It is dependent on the chassis that the module is connected to. Normally, communication with the module is disabled when the system is in sleep mode. Power feeding also reduces significantly in sleep mode. The NI-9505 is structured with a 9 pin female DSUB connector; it provides connections for the encoder inputs. It also provides +5V connection for encoder power. Moreover, it can connect for an emergency stop input and a connection to COM. The NI 9505 additionally has a screw terminal connector. This connector allows connections to a DC brushed servo motor and enables the module to connect to a motor DC power supply. The device weighs 5.5 oz, has an active power consumption rate of 100 mW while consuming as low as 0.4 mW when on sleep mode.
The NI 9505 is no longer available from the manufacturer National Instruments, but the Motor Drive Module will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves for purchases and repair services!
