National Instruments NI-9512 C Series Motor Drive Interface Module

The NI-9512 (Part number: 779944-01) is a Motor Drive Interface Module from the C Series by National Instruments. The NI‑9512 offers a mechanism for stepper drive, which allows the user to interface signals for requirements that involve a single axis. This module is well equipped with a wide range of I/O features for different motion requirements, including inputs for limit switches and home switches. The NI 9512 also includes a house encoder, which is an incremental type. It allows feedback for the positions of the inputs and is useful for general purpose I/O. The NI‑9512 module contains innovative motion features. This includes a capture and compare mechanism at various positions. The user can also directly connect it to P7000. The NI‑9512 processor runs the blade exclamation engine.

The device operates using the NI-RIO driver software which is compatible with software packages such as LabVIEW NI SoftMotion module, LabVIEW Development System, or LabVIEW Real-Time Module.

The NI-9512 C Series Module has two connectors. One is a 15 pin DSUB used for the drive interface. The second connector is a 20 pin MDR. The 15 pin DSUB consists of command signals and allows the drives in steps. It has a voltage range up to 0-30 V, is equipped with 4 general purpose digital I/O lines and 2 output lines. The 20 pin MDR connector provides incremental encoder feedback inputs. It has 5 V output for encoder power. Moreover, it has limit, home, and position compare inputs. The 20 pin MDR has an output for position compare. This connector has an added +19-30 V input for a power connection. The device has a maximum pulse rate of 5 MHz. It has a maximum active power consumption rate of 925 mW, and consumes a maximum of 0.4 mW when in sleep mode.

The NI-9512 module helps provide stepper command signals with direction and step and can support counterclockwise (CCW) and clockwise (CW) pulse outputs. The user can configure various output circuits using the software. It includes support for step and direction circuits which are configurable with both differential and single-ended outputs. The device weighs 5.5 oz.

While the NI-9512 is no longer available from the manufacturer National Instruments, the Motor Drive Interface Module will remain available in perpetuity from Apex Waves for both purchase and repair services!
