National Instruments USB-8473 CAN Interface Device
NI USB-8473 (Part Numbers: 779792-01, 779793-01, 194210C-01) is a high-speed CAN (Controller Area Network) interface module by National Instruments that is intended for CAN application development in automotive and industrial automation systems. In order to meet the needs of different applications, this module offers crucial features including listen-only mode, self-reception (echo), and advanced filtering modes.
With its HI-Speed USB interface, the USB-8473 makes it simple to connect to a host computer and uses the USB bus to supply power. With its integrated transceiver and captive 2-meter USB wire, its all-in-one design eliminates the need for other accessories for speedy setup. In order to provide compatibility with a broad range of CAN networks, including J1939 networks frequently used in automotive applications, this module supports CAN 2.0A (11-bit) and extended CAN 2.0B (29-bit) arbitration IDs.
Exact data acquisition and synchronization between various devices are made possible by the USB-8473 module's optional hardware synchronization and timestamping resolution. The synchronization features are only available on the USB-847x devices like the USB-8473, and it has time stamping capabilites for timebases of 1, 10 or 20 MHz. Reconstructing network events and establishing connections between synchronized devices depend on users being able to log messages with microsecond-accurate timestamps, which hardware timestamping enables.
By utilizing integrated frame buffering and Hi-Speed USB connectivity, the USB-8473 prevents dropped frames during operation to ensure dependable performance even under high bus loads. High-speed and low-speed/fault-tolerant choices are available in the physical layer of the module, and onboard transceivers offer electrical isolation of up to 500 V. The setup procedure is made simpler by this integrated physical layer, which does away with the requirement for extra dongles.
Tight integration of CAN, LIN, analog, and digital measurements is frequently needed in automotive applications. In order to meet this requirement, the USB-8473 module provides hardware synchronization features that let users synchronize timing and trigger signals across many devices for deterministic operation.
