National Instruments NI-9853 CAN Interface Module

The National Instruments-designed NI-9853 (Part Numbers: 780923-01, 779429-01, 780178-01, 780708-01, 199016E-02L) is a fast Controller Area Network (CAN) interface designed specifically for use with CompactRIO systems. It allows FPGA applications to be developed using the NI-RIO driver. For byte-level CAN frame manipulation, this interface excels at low-level FPGA-based control and triggering activities that are designed using the LabVIEW FPGA Module.

With its two separate CAN ports, the NI-9853 guarantees isolation between ports and other system modules. A Philips SJA1000 controller, which supports both 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers and is fully compatible with CAN 2.0B, is integrated into each port. In addition, the ISO 11898 standard is met by the Philips TJA1041 High-Speed CAN transceiver, which supports baud rates of up to 1 Mbps. The NI-9853 offers two 9-pin male D-Sub connectors for CAN bus interfacing in terms of connections.

Twisted-pair cable is used to link the pins for CAN_H and CAN_L on each port. Furthermore, CAN_H and CAN_L have two common pins (COM) that act as reference points, and an optional shield pin (SHLD) improves signal integrity and EMC performance in noisy situations.
