National Instruments PCI-6071E Multifunction DAQ
National Instruments created the PCI-6071E (Part Number: 777515-01), a multipurpose data acquisition (DAQ) board for PCI bus computers. It is also known by the name PCI-6071. It provides a number of features that are necessary for different industrial automation applications. This board offers varied capability for jobs including laboratory automation, research, design verification/test, and manufacturing test.
It includes analog I/O, digital I/O, and two 24-bit counters/timers. The PCI-6071E is an analog input device with 64 single-ended or 32 differential channels, 12-bit resolution, and successive approximation ADC. With an approximate dithered precision of ±0.5 LSB typ and an undithered precision of ±1.5 LSB max, this setup allows for accurate data capture.
The board also has a 512 S FIFO buffer, which supports interrupts, programmable I/O, and DMA data transfers. For analog output, the PCI-6071E offers two voltage channels with a 12-bit resolution and a max update rate of 1 MS/s for a single channel. This double-buffered, multiplying DAC configuration ensures accurate voltage outputs for control and testing applications. In terms of digital I/O, the board provides eight input/output channels compatible with TTL/CMOS standards.
This digital I/O capability allows for communication and control tasks essential in automation environments.. The National Instruments MITE bus interface chip enables the PCI-6071E's switchless and jumperless design, which makes software configuration and calibration simple. The board also makes use of the National Instruments DAQ-STC system timing controller, which has three timing groups for general-purpose counter/timer, analog input, and analog output control. This controller enables accurate timing tasks including equivalent time sampling and buffered pulse generation, with a maximum timing resolution of 50 ns.
For synchronization purposes, the PCI-6071E incorporates the Real-Time System Integration (RTSI) bus, enabling seamless coordination of multiple measurement functions across multiple DAQ boards within a computer system. In addition, the board facilitates interaction with SCXI systems, which permits the acquisition of more than 3,000 analog signals from different sources, such as strain gauges, thermocouples, and RTDs.
The PCI-6071E is no longer available from National Instruments, but the Multifunction DAQ will remain available in perpetuity from Apex Waves!
