National Instruments PCI-6111 Multifunction I/O Device

The PCI‑6111 (Part Numbers: 777530-01), manufactured by National Instruments, is a multifunction DAQ device designed for simultaneous sampling. It provides analog I/O, digital I/O, two 24‑bit counters, and digital triggering capabilities. Applications needing synchronization between analog input (AI), analog output (AO), and digital I/O will find this device very useful.

Its wide range of applications includes automotive systems (up to 42 V), sonar, radar, ultrasound, and stimulus/response scenarios. The PCI-6111 provides two pseudodifferential analog inputs with a resolution of 12 bits and a pipeline of three, with a 12-bit ADC per channel. A broad range of data acquisition requirements is supported by the sample rate, which varies from 1 kS/s to 5 MS/s. Both DC and AC input coupling options are available, and all channels have overvoltage protection up to ±42 V. The PCI-6111 has two voltage channels with a 16-bit resolution (1 in 65,536) for analog output.

Depending on the system setup, the maximum update rate can be as high as 4 MS/s for a single channel and 2.5 MS/s for two channels. It has a 2,048 sample FIFO buffer and may transfer data via interrupts, DMA, or programmable I/O. With regards to digital I/O, the PCI-6111 offers eight channels that are compatible with TTL/CMOS, providing a flexible means of integrating with digital devices and systems. The PCI-6111 is distinguished by its Real-Time System Integration (RTSI) bus, which enables the synchronization of various measurement functions.

Up to five DAQ devices in a computer system can have timing and trigger signals routed across them thanks to this bus, which consists of an interface and a ribbon wire. The switchless and jumperless design of the device, enabled by the National Instruments MITE bus interface chip, is responsible for its smooth configurability and calibration. Furthermore, by providing three timing groups and a maximum timing resolution of 50 ns, the DAQ-STC system timing controller improves time-related functions. Because of its compatibility with the NI-DAQmx driver and configuration utility, the PCI-6111 is a great option for a variety of industrial automation and data acquisition applications because it makes setup and operation even simpler.
