National Instruments 776564-01 GBIB Expander/Isolator 

National Instruments part number 776564-01 is an identifying part number for the GPIB-120A, an Expander/Isolator. The NI 776564-01 has a built-in 120 VAC Power Supply. The IEEE 488.1 standard supports up to 15 electrical loads in a GPIB system. The NI 776564-01 expands this limit, allowing up to 28 devices in a GPIB system. This GPIB Expander is suitable for measurement and test systems due to its electrically isolated interface. The GPIB serves as an interface or link system for interconnected devices, enabling them to communicate by transmitting messages across the interface. 

This device comes with seven LEDs on the front panel, with dedicated LEDs indicating the states of the Active Controller and System Controller. The expander's Bus A and Bus B can operate as independent GPIB devices. There are sixteen signal lines and eight shield drain or ground return lines on the 776564-01. These 16 signal lines are categorized into three groups: five interface management lines, three handshake lines, and eight data lines. The device has a typical power requirement of 27 VA and a typical data transfer rate degradation of 250 ns per byte. The NI device features operating isolation of 60 V and breakdown isolation of 1600 V. It is equipped with a standard Amphenol or Cinch series 57 Micro Ribbon or Amp Champ type connector. 

This model eliminates the need for rewriting user application software due to its transparent software interface. This feature allows users to seamlessly connect two GPIB systems without requiring software modifications. Additionally, the 776564-01 Bus Expander extends the cable limit from 20 meters, effectively doubling the reach between devices. This device is equipped with a case, it is constructed from UL94V-0 flame retardant polystyrene DOW 60875F or Noryl FN-215. It is designed to operate effectively within a recommended temperature range of 0° to 45° C.
