National Instruments GPIB-1014 GPIB Interface for VMEbus

The GPIB-1014 is a GPIB Interface designed for VMEbus systems. The manufacturer of this interface is National instruments. The NI GPIB-1014 plays the role of communication media to send or receive signals and messages between the GPIB and VMEbus. The GPIB-1014 GPIB Interface’s application in a personal computer enables users to utilize their personal computer as either a controller, talker, or listener.

The GPIB-1014 Interface offers high performance IEEE-1014 standard specifications along with meeting the specifications needed for VMEbus. In addition, this GPIB Interface has the capability to meet the requirements specified for the IEEE-488 standard. The NI GPIB-1014 has two versions, each with a different part number. The part numbers of these boards are 776059-01 (GPIB-1014-1) and 776060-01 (GPIB-1014-2). The only difference between the two boards is the GPB-1014-1 has a GPIB port on the front of the board, while the GPIB-1014-2 does not.

The transfer rate of the device is over 500 kbytes/s. The supply voltage level for the NI GPIB-1014 is +5 VDC.  The maximum current requirement for this device is 2.0 A. This GPIB Interface is convenient to install in the backplane of the VMEbus. The options that need to be configured before installation include access mode, base address, and DMA address modifier. The device offers software selectable configuration parameters for user convenience. The signal compatibility for both the GPIB-1014 and VMEbus must be confirmed before installation. The P1 and P2 connectors of the VMEbus are used for interfacing between the GPIB Interface and VMEbus. The driver software for the NI GPIB-1014 is ESP-488.
