The RS-485 port on the NI GPIB-485CT-A utilizes a 9-pin shielded, standard D-sub male connector.
The RS-485 connector couples with standard D-sub 9-pin female connectors. The GPIB connector used in this device is a 24-pin, standard female connector with screw lock hardware. The two connectors are provided on opposite side panels of the device. Like its predecessors, the GPIB-485CT-A is offered in AC and DC versions. The AC version comes with a power cord receptacle mounted on the front panel, whereas a DC power jack is provided on the DC version.
This GPIB Serial Controller can be configured to operate in G or S mode. For mode configuration, data format, baud rate, and GPIB address, DIP switches are provided on the device’s rear panel. Users who want to utilize this device solely as a listener and talker should use G mode. However, those who wish to operate their NI GPIB-485CT-A as a GPIB Controller should configure it for S mode operation.
This device comes featured with various controller capabilities. Thus, it can accept data continuously from the GPIB or serial port even when the other port is busy. Moreover, it can handle both the requested and continuous types of error and status reporting in either numeric or symbol form. The GPIB-485CT-A supports XON/XOFF and hardware handshake communication protocols.
