National Instruments PCI-8232 GPIB Control Module
The PCI-8232 GPIB Controller and Gigabit Ethernet Port Module by National Instruments adds an IEEE 488 interface within the one-slot PCI board, which saves the user a slot in their PC. This GPIB Control Module is compatible with 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet networks. The PCI-8232 has two part numbers: the PCI-8232 for Windows Vista/XP/2000 (Part number: 778742-01) and the PCI-8232 for Windows Me/98/NT (Part number: 778743-01).
The NI PCI-8232 can be operated when the user is required to control GPIB instruments and add a network connection to their system. The Gigabit Ethernet interface on the PCI-8232 has transfer rates of 1,000 Mbits/s maximum (1000BASE-T), NI-488.2 driver software for Windows, and is fully compatible with IEEE 488. The interfaces on the GPIB Control Module will automatically connect at the highest possible speed and can sustain the optimum performance even as the user’s network conditions change. Additionally, the Ethernet Controller will enhance the performance of challenging desktop applications through the duplex feature. Furthermore, the NI PCI-8232 has Auto-MDI negotiation, which enables the Ethernet port to connect via crossover and straight-through cables.
The National Instruments PCI-8232 GPIB Control Module software and hardware delivers optimum performance, regardless of the size of the data block. Data transfer rates are based on the host computer, system configuration, operating system, and device capability. The types of software recommended for use with the PCI-8232 include: NI LabWindows/CVI for Windows, NI Measurement Studio Professional Edition, and LabVIEW Professional Development System for Windows. Each of these software tools are meant for large project creation.
The PCI-8232 is no longer available from National Instruments, but the GPIB Control Module will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
