National Instruments 780115-01 Multifunction I/O Device
The 780115-01 is an identifying part number for the NI-6251, a multifunction I/O device offered by National Instruments. An extensive array of data acquisition functions, such as digital I/O, analog input, analog output, and general-purpose counters/timers, are offered by this device. It was developed to provide dependable and reasonably priced DAQ solutions for a range of uses, including research, design verification and testing, production test procedures, and laboratory automation.
The analog input characteristics of the 780115-01 include 16 single-ended or 8 differential channels with a resolution of 16 bits for the ADC. A maximum single-channel sample rate of 1.25 MS/s is supported by the device. When using numerous channels, the total sample rate is 1.00 MS/s. Its 50 ppm sampling rate precision and 50 ns timing resolution provide accurate measurements. There is a DC input coupling.
For analog output, the 780115-01 offers ±1 LSB DNL and 16-bit guaranteed monotonicity with its two channels and 16-bit DAC resolution. These outputs can be used to generate control signals and precise waveforms.
The 780115-01 has 24 channels total, which are split between 8 and 16 channels for digital I/O. Because each terminal can be programmed separately as an input or output, there are several control options available. The device provides input voltage protection of ±20 V on up to two pins and features a pull-down resistor of 50 kΩ usual (20 kΩ minimum).
The 780115-01 has two 32-bit general-purpose counters/timers that can be used for edge counting, pulse measurement, semi-period, period, and two-edge separation. In addition to supporting X1, X2, and X4 quadrature encoding with Channel Z reloading for position measurements, the device implements two-pulse encoding. The counters and timers can also be used for output tasks such as pulse production and pulse trains, equivalent time sampling, and frequency division. Three internal base clock frequencies are used: 80 MHz, 20 MHz, and 0.1 MHz, together with an external base clock frequency range of 0 MHz to 20 MHz with an accuracy of 50 ppm.
To make setup and measurements easier, the device comes with the NI-DAQmx driver and configuration software. Its usefulness can also be improved by adding sensor and high-voltage measurement capabilities with SCC or SCXI signal conditioning modules.
