National Instruments PCI-6221 Multifunction I/O Device

The PCI-6221 (Part Numbers: 779066-01 and 779418-01) is a reliable Multifunction I/O Device from the M Series by National Instruments. This model is valuable in a wide range of applications, such as laboratory automation, research, and manufacturing. The PCI-6221 is an ideal choice for design verification and manufacturing tests. The main difference between the two part numbers for the device is that part number 779066-01 has a 68-pin VHDCI front connector, while part number 779418-01 has a 37-pin D-SUB front connector. This device is a low-cost option with useful data acquisition (DAQ) capabilities. The PCI-6221 delivers analog I/O and correlated digital I/O. This model comes with 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog input channels, an analog input resolution of 16 bits, and a data acquisition rate of 250 kS per second. The PCI-6221 DAQ Card can be used with an NI-DAQ mx driver and configuration utility to simplify the configuration and measurement process. Asides automatically, configuration can also be carried out using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.

The NI PCI-6221 Card offers two analog output (AO) channels as well. This device comes with an AO rate of 833 kS per second for a single channel and 740 kS per second for dual channels. This device is bus powered with a 3.3 V or 5 V signal environment, and has an analog input absolute accuracy of 3100 uV. It’s maximum sample rate is 250 kS per second, while it is not equipped with simultaneous sampling. The NI PCI-6221 DAQ Card also offers two 32-bit counters/timers and digital triggering. The above features ensure reliable multi-function operation.

The NI PCI 6221 is compatible with the signal conditioning platforms. These platforms are NI SCC and SCXI. They provide amplification, filtering, and power for every type of sensor, which ensures the PCI 6221 NI can perform data logging and sensor measurements. The National Instruments PCI 6221 also offers 8 correlated (clocked) Digital I/O (DIO) for the 68-pin version up to 1 MHZ and 2 correlated (clocked) DIO for the 37-pin version. It features 6 DMA channels which can be used for analog I/O, Digital I/O, counter/timer 0 and 1. The device has a weight of 3.2 oz., with the dimensions: 4.2 x 6.1 in.

The PCI-6221 is now no longer available directly from the manufacturer National Instruments, but the Multifunction I/O Device will still be available for purchase and repairs in perpetuity with Apex Waves.
