National Instruments PCI-6259 Multifunction DAQ

The PCI-6259 is a Multifunction DAQ by National Instruments. The part number of this device is 779072-01. The PCI-6259 is a 16-bit M Series device.  The device offers an optimized solution for measuring requirements. The PCI-6259 device incorporates the NI-STC 2 system controller. This controller ensures high performance. For superior accuracy, NI-MCal calibration technology is offered in the PCI-6259 device.

The PCI-6259 Multifunction DAQ has 32 single-ended/16 differential analog input terminals. The input terminals are software-selectable. The sampling rate depends upon the mode (single/multi-channel) selected. The maximum sampling rate is 1.25 MS/s and 1 MS/s respectively. The input channels operate at a range of +0.1 V to +10V. When the power of the PCI-6259 device is on, the impedance of input terminals is >10 GΩ. It reduces to 820 Ω when the device is powered off. The input channels have a low noise level. The crosstalk is at a level of -75 dB. The PCI-6259 I/O device has four 16-bit analog output terminals which transfer data at a rate of 2.86 MS/s. The timing resolution of the output terminal is 50 ns. The overdrive current of the output terminal is 20 mA. When the device is powered on, a glitch of 1.5 V appears for 1.5 seconds. The PCI-6259 device also incorporates FIFO buffers at the input and output terminals. The device has 48 digital I/O channels.

The PCI-6259 incorporates two counters/timers. The resolution of the timers is 32 bits with a frequency of 80 MHz. The FIFO buffer of the counters can store two samples. The PCI-6259 also has one frequency generator and has two base clocks. These clocks have fixed frequencies: 100 kHz and 10 MHz. The output of the frequency generator is transmitted to all PFI or RTSI terminal. The PCI-6259 is run using the NI-DAQmx driver software which must be installed first. After installation of the software, the user needs to install support for their choice Application Development Environment-which could be LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, C/C++, C#, or Visual Basic .NET.

The PCI-6259 is a Legacy model that is no longer available from National Instruments, but the Multifunction DAQ will still be available for purchase and repairs in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
