National Instruments PCI-6561 Digital Waveform Generator

The PCI-6561 (Part Numbers: 778991-01, 778991-02, and 778991-03) is a 100 MHz Digital Waveform Generator from National Instruments. This model comes equipped with 16 built-in data channels. The PCI-6561 has synchronization capabilities, which enables the analysis capability by interfacing 16 low-voltage differential signaling digital pins. There are also generation and acquisition channels for help with fulfilling various testing and analysis procedures for R&D requirements. Various sources of generation are provided for the sample clock, including: On Board clock, CLK IN, and STROBE mechanism. The on-board clock is generated through an internal voltage-controlled crystal oscillator and comes with a divider. The device is equipped with 3 SMB jack and a 12X InfiniBand I/o connector.

The NI PCI-6561 Waveform Generator has different frequency ranges for different sources. The range is 48 Hz to 100 MHz for the On-Board clock source. The input frequency range from CLK IN terminal is 20 kHz to 100 MHz. The STROBE option comes with the frequency range of 48 Hz to 100 MHz. These CLK sources offer a resolution of 10 ps. This model also has a typical lock time of 400 milliseconds. The frequency range for the reference clock is 10 MHz ± 50 ppm and the duty cycle range is 25 % to 75 %. The PCI-6561 is run using the NI-HSDIO driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, Microsoft Visual C/C++, and .NET. The device hardware can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.

The NI PCI-6561 offers various trigger modes to further enhance the operational capabilities of the instrument. This model has a typical warm time of fifteen minutes. It also offers an exceptional accuracy for frequency measurements, with a typical value of ± 100 ppm. The Digital Waveform Generator weighs around 410 grams and has physical dimensions of 4.96 x 13.9 inches. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 45 °C, and a storage temperature range of -20 °C to 70 °C.
