National Instruments PCMCIA-485/2 RS-485 Serial Interface

The PCMCIA-485/2 is a 2-port Serial Interface for RS485. The NI PCMCIA-485/2 Serial Interface is designed and developed by National Instruments. The manufacturer has assigned part number 777378-02 to the Serial Interface for identification and ordering. The NI PCMCIA-485/2 is an asynchronous interface with serial ports which can be used for communication between the PCMCIA-485/2 and other instruments. The PCMCIA-485/2 is a plug-and-play device. This feature allows for automatic configuration, thus providing simple installation and maintenance.

This RS-485 Serial Interface features DB-9 male connectors. The NI PCMCIA-485/2 can be used with interface cables that offer one, two, or four DB-9 male connectors. The DB-9 male connectors deliver regular pin assignments for RS485 connections. The cables offer the same DB-9 male connectors that are installed on a normal PC serial port. The maximum cable length is 30 m, which is limited by EMC/surge. This RS-485 Serial Interface has a maximum baud rate of 921.6 kbps.

The National Instruments PCMCIA-485/2 can be installed on different operating systems. Operating systems that are compatible include Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 9x, and Windows 2000. The software types recommended by National Instruments for this Serial Interface are LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, and Lab Windows/CVI. Driver software that is required to install the NI PCMCIA-485/2 Serial Interface is NI-Serial. The NI-Serial driver functions with NI-VISA, ensuring development is a simple process.
