National Instruments 784802-01 PXI ARINC 429 Interface Module

Part Number 784802-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments LV-222-441-000 PXI ARINC 429 Interface Module. ARNIC 429 is one of the most common ARNIC (Aeronautical Radio Incorporated) standards that defines the transfer of digital data between commercial avionics systems. This standard uses broadcast bus topology and a label identification method for data words. 

The 784802-01 features 8 channels that can be configured as both transmitters and receivers. The receive channels have automatic speed detection, independent label, and SDI filtering, while each transmit channel can automatically maintain accurate label repetition rates. Furthermore, both channels can be set independently for low or high speed (12.5 or 100 Kbps). 

The 784802-01 also supports non-standard speeds and the configurable frequencies can be set for each transmit and receive channel through software. This allows operating the channels with equipment that does not adhere to the ARNIC 429 standards. The non-standard frequencies can be generated with the help of a bit-rate configuration function. The 784802-01 has extensive generation capability and error detection features which makes it an ideal device for product development and testing. For example, it can test for parity bit errors, bit count errors, and inter-message gap errors. Likewise, it can send both periodic and asynchronous messages as well as playback recorded data transmissions. Furthermore, it can monitor data streams and apply timestamps to received messages. 

The 784802-01 interfaces through a PCIe interface and supports transfer rates of 2.5 Gbps as per direction. Note that the module does not require an external power supply as it can draw power from the host PXIe slot. Moreover, the device also comes with an integrated test circuitry that can be used to test the card’s functionality and confirm if the device is working as planned. 

Some modules similar to the 784802-01 also offer additional capabilities like parametric waveform control and output state control. The parametric waveform control allows control over transmit amplitude, offset and null voltages, common-mode bias, rise time, and fall time. Similarly, the output state control allows opening either the output leg of a transmit channel or shorting either the output leg of a transmit channel to the ground.
