National Instruments 778783-01 PXI-CAN Interface 

National Instruments part number 778783-01 is an identifying part number for the PXI-8464/1 a PCI-CAN Interface. The NI 778783-01 is a selectable transceiver and Controller Area Network (CAN) interface module for NI FieldPoint. It allows users to easily connect simple and automated I/O with built-in signal conditioning to a CAN bus. National Instruments provides CAN devices with NI-CAN software for Windows 2000/NT/XP/Me/98. This software includes device drivers for application development and firmware that operates on the embedded Intel 80386EX microprocessor. 

The NI-CAN drivers are 32-bit and compatible with NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and programming environments such as Microsoft Visual C/C++, Borland C/C++, and Visual Basic 6. National Instruments offers selectable CAN interfaces in the PXI format. The NI 778783-01 is a 3U module that complies with both PXI and CompactPCI standards. It can be used to interface with individual low-speed CAN devices. Before connecting devices to this Interface, it is important to check the total termination of the network or each individual device. Philips recommends a total RTH and RTL termination resistance of 100 to 500 Ω for adequate termination in a low-speed network. 

NI-CAN software offers two different application programming interfaces (APIs): channel and frame. The channel API allows you to work with the CAN bus using simple engineering units and channels. It makes it easier to integrate and synchronize multiple devices. The frame API provides lower-level access to the CAN bus, enabling you to read and write raw frames directly on the network. This API is suitable for users who need detailed control over the CAN bus.
