National Instruments PXIe-1078 PXI Chassis

The NI PXIe-1078 (Part Numbers: 763068-01, 781622-01, 781482-01, 781634-01, 763000-01, 199485F-01L) is a 9 Slot PXI Chassis from National Instruments. This multipurpose chassis contains eight peripheral slots and a (4-slot wide) system controller slot that can accommodate either a remote controller or embedded controller. The PXIe-1078 Chassis provides users with the flexibility to combine the operations of both PXI and PXI Express modules by utilizing three PXI Express slots and five PXI hybrid slots. The PXI hybrid-compatible slots can work with either PXI Express modules or standard PXI modules.

The NI PXIe-1078 has a backplane which routes 3 PCI Express links of the system slot to peripheral slots. The backplane also features a link to a PCIe to PCI translation bridge. The PXI Express hybrid slots deliver connectivity to a x1 PCI Express link, and to the 32-bit, 33 MHz PCI bus for PXI Express modules and PXI hybrid compatible modules, respectively. The PXI Express system configuration is carried out through the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. The device requires a software media with PXI Platform Services 2.0 or higher to operate, which is contained in the chassis kit.

Some of the helpful accessories that are compatible with the National Instruments PXIe-1078 Chassis include a 240 V power cord (part number 763068-01), a side handle and rubber feet kit (part number 781482-01), a Rack Mount Kit (781634-01), and a 120 VAC Power Cord (part number 763000-01).

Fully compliant with PXI timing and synchronization standards, this Chassis features a 100 MHz reference clock with an accuracy of +/-25 ppm and a maximum slot to slot skew of 100 ps. Filler panels can be inserted into any empty slots of the NI PXIe-1078 to sustain cooling for the modules, and these panels can be held in place with captive mounting screws. In addition, the chassis is equipped with an AUTO/HIGH fan speed selector that provides a high fan-speed to maximize cooling as well as an AUTO setting that minimizes acoustic emissions. Physically, the PXI Chassis weighs 16.6 lbs and measures dimensions of 6.97 x 14 x 8.43 in.

The PXIe-1078 is now regarded as Obsolete and is no longer available from National Instruments, but the PXI Chassis will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
