National Instruments PXI-8187 PXI Controller
Featuring a 2.5 GHz Pentium 4-M processor, the National Instruments PXI-8187 (Part Numbers: 779755-00, 779755-01, 779755-02, 779755-33, 779842-00, 779842-01, 779842-02, 779842-33, 189792B-013) is an Embedded Controller designed for PXI and CompactPCI system. The Controller features a variety of PC peripherals such as one VGA (15-pin DSUB), two 16550 RS-232 serial ports, one 10/100 Ethernet Port, two USB 2.0 Ports, 1 x PS/2 (5-pin Din) Port, one Parallel Port (36-pin champ), and one GPIB (25-pin Micro D). This 3U-sized Embedded PXI Controller requires 1 system slot and 3 expansion slots, and it is an ideal solution for data acquisition and modular instrumentation applications
The NI PXI-8187 is a state-of-the-art integration between a microprocessor and almost all standard and extended PC peripherals. It comes with specialized software tools, which allows the user to recover the factory condition of the hard drive from a small, designated area of their hard drive. This protected area stores an image of the hard disk as it was provided at the time of delivery. The user can access that image by using a hotkey during the boot process of the PXI-8187. Besides, the user can also recover the factory-installed OS, using the included operating system installation disc with an external CD-ROM. In some cases, the user may want to replace the default operating system with a different operating system. While the controller allows the Microsoft Windows XP OS to be installed via CD-ROM, others should be installed by a network.
Fully compatible with the PXI specification, the physical dimensions of the PXI-8187 measure 3.2 in. × 5.1 in. × 8.5 in. (8.1 cm × 13 cm × 21.6 cm). Typically, the device weighs 2.2 lb (1.0 kg). The recommended operating temperature for the controller ranges from 5-45°C, depending on the chassis used. This temperature range is increased to 0–55 °C with the extended temperature option. Likewise, the –20 to 65 °C storage temperature range is increased to –40 to 85 °C with the extended temperature option.
National Instruments has announced the PXI-8187 to be Obsolete, but the PXI Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs in perpetuity by Apex Waves.
