National Instruments 780587-41 8x12 PXI RF Matrix Switch Module

The National Instruments 780587-41 is an 8x12 RF matrix switch module designed for flexible RF signal switching. It is also identified as the PXIe-2531 unit. This non-blocking RF matrix allows simultaneous connections between any rows and columns. Its isolation relays disconnect unused parts that ensure high isolation and maintaining optimal RF performance. This matrix switch module is ideal for routing signals between various RF devices such as digitizers, function generators, and analyzers. It can also be expanded to create larger switching matrices (8x24, 8x36, or larger) for higher channel count applications.

The NI 780587-41 features a maximum switching voltage of 60 V DC and a maximum switching or carrying current of 0.5 A per channel. The switching power is capped at 10 W per channel. The module supports simultaneous RF power up to 10 W per channel for up to five channels at frequencies up to 300 MHz. It has a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω and showcases low insertion loss and VSWR. The 780587-41 module’s DC path resistance is typically less than 2.1 Ω initially that rises to about 3.1 Ω over its lifespan. Its RF performance includes isolation of more than 75 dB between rows and columns along with crosstalk typically below -35 dB. It offers fast signal propagation delays and minimal channel-to-channel skew.

The dynamic characteristics of the NI 780587-41 unit include a simultaneous relay drive limit of 40 relays along with a maximum operate and release time of 0.25 ms. The mechanical relay life is typically 10 million cycles. The module’s trigger characteristics feature programmable output pulse widths and compatibility with PXI trigger lines. The 780587-41 module fits into a single slot of a PXI or PXIe chassis. The unit weighs only 410 g and has dimensions of 21.6 cm x 2.0 cm x 13.0 cm. It operates efficiently within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C. The module meets various compliance and certification standards that includes IEC 61010-1 for safety and multiple EMC standards.
