National Instruments 782835-38 2-Wire PXI Matrix Switch Module

The National Instruments 782835-38 is an advanced 2-wire 8x32 Matrix Switch Module. This high-density PXI Express module is also known as PXIe-2738 and is designed for efficient signal routing within automated test systems. It performs immediate switch operations due to its electromechanical, non-latching relays relays. This matrix switch unit is engineered to monitor the health of deployed systems that offers onboard relay count tracking, a temperature sensor, and functional and resistive relay self-tests through the NI Switch Health Center.

The 782835-38 unit requires a maximum switching voltage of 100 V for both channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground connections. It supports a maximum switching power of 60 W (62.5 VA), but this power is limited by the maximum switching current that is 2 A per channel. The minimum switching load is 20 mV/1 mA, and the module provides a DC isolation resistance of 1 GΩ at 25 degree Celsius. The initial DC path resistance is less than 1.3 Ω that increases to a warranted value of 2.3 Ω by the end of the relay's life. The NI 782835-38 features rapid relay operate times along with typical actuation occurring in 1 ms and a maximum time of 3.3 ms. It can simultaneously drive up to 90 relays and offers an impressive mechanical relay life of 100 million cycles. The electrical relay life varies based on load conditions such as 2.5 million cycles at ≤30 mV (≤10 mA resistive) and 100,000 cycles at 60 VDC (1 A resistive).

The module is compact (21.6 cm x 2.0 cm x 13.0 cm) and weighs only 423 g. It requires a 12 V power supply at 24 W and 3.3 V at 3.6 W. The front panel of NI 782835-38 features a 160-position DIN 41612 male connector. The NI 782835-38 operates effectively within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and 10% to 90% relative humidity. The module maintains a -3 dB bandwidth of ≤10 MHz for both 1-wire 50 Ω and 2-wire 100 Ω terminations. The PXIe-2738 meets rigorous electromagnetic compatibility standards such as EN 61326-1, EN 55011, and FCC 47 CFR Part 15B. It is also designed according to IEC 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1 safety standards.
