National Instruments 778572-64 SPST Relay Module

The part number 778572-64 from National Instruments is the identifying part number for the PXI-2564 SPST Relay Module that features (16) Sixteen Electromechanical, non-latching, 5 Ampere relays. The highest voltage that can be safely switched between the individual channels of the module is 150 volts AC or 150 volts DC. The safe maximum switching voltage between the individual channels and the ground is also 150 volts AC or 150 Volts DC along with CAT II clearance making it suitable for use in environments with moderate levels of transient overvoltage, such as local-level electrical distribution systems.

The 778572-64 SPST Relay Module can support a maximum of 750 VA power switching per channel, 150 watts at 30 volts DC, and 30 watts at 150 volts DC. The switching or carrying current per channel is rated up to 5 Amperes and can run the channels simultaneously as long as the temperature of the module is under 55 °C. The module supports a minimum switching load of 150 mA at 5 volts. 

To control the inputs, the 778572-64 SPST Relay Module relies on 8 PXI trigger lines which can be individually addressed and utilized for specific purposes, such as initiating measurements, synchronizing data acquisition, or triggering external devices. The minimum pulse width required by this module to recognize it as an input trigger is around 150 nanoseconds while the pulse width of output triggers is software-selectable, allowing users to adjust the duration of the trigger pulses according to their specific requirements. The selectable range spans from 1 microsecond to 62 microseconds, offering flexibility in tailoring trigger signals to suit various applications or timing constraints. 

The relay switches on this module take approximately 10.4 milliseconds to switch from open to closed position or vice-versa allowing it to quickly respond to the control signal which can be advantageous in applications requiring rapid response times. Due to the robust design of the 778572-64 SPST Relay Module, the expected mechanical life of the relay is 2 × 107 cycles and the expected electrical life of the relay at full load is approximately 1 × 105 cycles. The module has dimensions of 21.6 × 2.0 × 13.0 cm (8.5 × 0.8 × 5.1 in.) making it small and compact and weighs approximately 267 g.
