National Instruments PCI-7831R Reconfigurable I/O Device
Featured with eight analog inputs/outputs, the National Instruments PCI-7831R is a Reconfigurable I/O Device in the R Series. This model comes equipped with a powerful, Virtex-II 1M Gate class FPGA. Moreover, this model has 96 digital lines. With this device, the user can configure any digital I/O line as either custom logic, an input/output, or a counter. The PCI-7831R is equipped with 8 independent 16-bit Analog Input channels-with a data transfer rate of 200 kS per second; and 8 independent 16-bit Analog Output channels-with a data transfer rate of 1 MS per second.
The device operates using the NI-RIO driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabVIEW FPGA module, or LabVIEW Real-Time module. The FPGA incorporated in this model is completely programmable with the National Instruments LabVIEW FPGA Module and requires no professional intervention. The NI PCI-7831R also offers low cost-signal conditioning and I/O expansion with direct connectivity to the NI 9151 device.
This Reconfigurable I/O Device offers complete control over timing and synchronization of all operations and signals. The digital lines incorporated in this device can not only be utilized for general operations, but they can also be used for pulse-width modulation and processing specialized communication protocols. The NI PCI 7831R can be used with any Windows based personal computer since it is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7, and several more variations of the Windows operating system. The device is fitted with 40 18 x 18 multipliers, and an embedded block RAM of 720 kbits. It has two DIO connectors and a 68-pin female high density VHDCI I/O connector.
This model features a dedicated, 16-bit, successive approximation type of ADC for each channel. On its analog inputs, this model supports various input modes, including: RSE, NRSE, and DIFF. Anyone of these modes can be selected through software and the selection applies globally to all channels. In the power on condition, the NI PCI-7831R device offers single-ended, voltage output with 1 MS per second maximum update range and 1.0 μs update time. The device weighs 0.25 lbs., and measures 6.7 x 4.3 in. in dimensions.
The PCI-7831R is no longer available with National Instruments (NI), the Reconfigurable I/O Device will remain available for both purchase or repairs in perpetuity with Apex Waves.

National Instruments PCI-7831R Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How many digital lines does the PCI-7831R have?
Answer: The PCI-7831R has 96 digital lines, that are configurable as inputs, outputs, counters, or custom logic at rates up to 40MHz.
Question: How do I use power up states with the PCI-7831R FPGA card?
Answer: When using the PCI-7831R, you can configure the card to load a VI when the system powers on. The VI will then be able to set the DIO lines to any power-on state that you determine.
Question: When I run my PCI-7831R, card I get a dialog box that says, “This is the application template and cannot be run alone.” This is followed by “Error contacting server: localhost.” What is wrong?
Answer: When running the PCI-7831R card, this error usually means that the code you’ve written is too big to compile.
Question: What does "PCI" stand for in the PCI-7831R?
Answer: PCI is a standard that stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect.
