National Instruments USB-5680 RF Power Sensor Device
The USB-5680 (part number: 780167-01) is an RF Power Sensor Device designed and manufactured by National Instruments. This powerful yet compact device is built with a dynamic range of measurements, and it can also operate as a true RMS power meter— allowing it to measure the power of continuous wave signals. This feature is useful for automated test applications where path loss needs to be measured. Due to the device’s small size, the USB-5680 is easily used in mobile applications and ones where rack space is a concern.
The low-power RF Power Sensor Device draws a current of 100 mAs, and the required power can be sourced from even a USB cable, no dedicated power source is required. This ease of connection results in an incredibly portable device that can even be used with a laptop. The frequency of the USB-5680 ranges from 50 MHz to 6 GHz, and the dynamic range measure from -40 dBm to +23 dBm.
The NI USB-5680 is designed with a dual-path architecture, which makes it possible to achieve a dynamic range up to 63 dB. This architecture uses diode sensors in the linear regions, increasing the accuracy of power measurements. The USB-5680 RF Power Sensor Device can be operated in two modes: as a bench instrument or as an automated measurement device. When used as a bench instrument, the supported operating systems are Windows XP, VISTA, and 2000.
Intended for indoor use only, the RF Power Sensor Device measures 3.35 in × 1.18 in × 2.2 in (8.5 cm × 3.0 cm × 5.6 cm) in physical dimensions and weighs 6.4 oz (180 g). The ambient temperature when the device is operational ranges from 0 °C to 55 °C. The noncondensing relative humidity range for operating conditions differs depending on the temperature. At 55 °C, the humidity is 45%. At 40 °C and 30 °C, the humidity range is 75% and 95%, respectively. The storage environment for the USB-5680 includes an ambient temperature range of -51 °C to +71 °C and a noncondensing relative humidity range of 5% to 95%. These environmental factors were tested in accordance with the standards of IEC 60068-2-1 and IEC 60068-2-2.
The USB-5680 is no longer available from National Instruments (NI), but the RF Power Sensor Device will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves.
