National Instruments PXI-6652 PXI Timing and Synchronization Module
Featured with 711 nHz resolution and DC to 105 MHz high-resolution clock generation, the National Instruments PXI-6652 (Part Number: 778726-01) is a PXI Timing and Multi-Chassis Synchronization Module. This module comes with the capability to import/export triggers to the PXI backplane, drive PXI start trigger lines, and generate a TCXO 10 MHz reference clock with alleviated stability for instrumentation. The NI PXI 6652 can also be used to enhance the instrument’s accuracy within a system or for the synchronization of several PXI systems together. It is equipped with 1 3U PXI slot, and a 50 Ω SMB male front panel connector.
When this module is inserted in slot 2 of a PXI chassis, the PXI-6652 module can supersede the built-in 10 MHz reference clock on a PXI chassis. The clock preciseness is increased to 1 ppm with the NI PXI-6652 module.
The Clock Input (CLKIN) connector provided on the front panel of the NI PXI-6652 supplies the module with a clock. This clock can be routed to the onboard PLL programmatically for its utilization as a reference or routed to the PXI backplane (PXI_CLK10_IN) directly for distribution to other modules sharing the same chassis. This Timing and Synchronization Module comes equipped with a Clock Output (CLKOUT) connector. The CLKOUT can be routed programmatically from the temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO), backplane clock (PXI_CLK10), direct digital synthesis (DDS), or oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO).
The National Instruments PXI-6652 features Programmable Function Interfaces (PFI) <0..5>. Each of these connectors can be used as an input or output. In addition, the user can configure the PFI 0 as a clock input for the internal synchronization of other signals. With this timing and multi-chassis synchronization module, the user can program PFI connections in their individual capacity. The National Instruments PXI-6652 can generate clock signals using either its onboard DDS chip or a precise 10 MHz oscillator.
The PXI-6652 is run using the NI-Sync driver software which can be programmed with software packages or application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI or Microsoft Visual C++. The NI device measures 3.9 x 6.3 in. in physical dimensions.
