National Instruments PXI-6653 PXI Timing and Control Module
The National Instruments PXI-6653 (Part Number: 778715-01) is a Timing and Multi-Chassis Synchronization Module. This model comes featured with an onboard high-stability reference OCXO, star trigger controller with low-skew triggering for precision, and integrated routing of the trigger and clock signals. The front panel of the PXI-6653 has one CLKOUT Connector, one CLKIN Connector, PFI <0..5> Connectors, one Access LED, and one Active LED. This Timing and Control Module can generate and route trigger and clock signals from one location to another. The PFI connections can be configured for either input or output. The NI PXI-6653 consumes 2 A max at +5 V, 600 mA max at +3.3 V, 500 mA max at +12 V, and 0 A max at -12 V. This Timing and Control Module requires one 3U PXI Slot and weighs around 203 g.
With this module, the user can adjust the behavior of the PFI connections individually. The National Instruments PXI-6653 supports PXI_Star and PXI_Trig signals for the synchronization of the PXI_STAR triggers and RTSI/PXI triggers respectively. By type, the front panel connectors of this module are SMB male. This module comes with a broad range of routing capabilities as it can route signals to and from the PXI start triggers, front panel, and the PXI/RTSI triggers as well. In addition, the NI PXI-6653 can route a 10 MHz clock from Clock In (CLKIN) towards the 10 MHz reference clock or a clock from CLKIN to any number of PXI_STAR lines. It can also lock the OCXO timebase to an external reference clock and route that towards the 10 MHz reference clock. Additionally, it has a CLKIN frequency range of 1 MHz to 105 MHz.
The NI device is run using the NI-Sync driver software. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C, and an operating and non-operating random vibration of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively – all at a frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz.
PXI-6653 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
