National Instruments 777687-15 LVDT Terminal Block

Part Number 777687-15 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments SCXI-1315 LVDT Terminal Block. This terminal block is typically used with the SCXI-1540 LVDT module to connect to linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs), rotary variable differential transformers (RVDTs), and resolvers through screw terminals. There are 48 terminals categorized into eight groups of six each group representing one of the eight channels in the SCXI-1540. To set up and use the 777687-15 with the SCXI-1540, you will need the following accessories: installation guides for both devices, a SCXI chassis, Number 1 and 2 Philips-head screwdrivers, ⅛ in. flathead screwdriver, long nose pliers, wire cutter, and a wire insulation stripper.

To connect signals to the 777687-15, the signal wires are first run through the strain-relief opening and then an insulation of no more than 7 mm is stripped. Then, the signal wires are connected to the screw terminals. Most importantly, during this process, you must make sure that no bare wire extends past the screw terminal since exposed wires increase the risk of a short circuit. Then, the screws are tightened to a torque of 5 to 7 in.-lb, and the strain relief bar and the top cover are reinstalled. Likewise, to install the terminal block to the SCXI module, the module front connector is first connected to its mating connector on the terminal block. This is followed by tightening the top and bottom thumbscrews on the back of the terminal block to hold it securely in place.

The 777687-15 is recommended for use in between the temperature range of 0 to 50 °C at a relative humidity of 10 to 90%. On the other hand, it can be stored at a much wider range of –20 to 70 °C. Note that the device is designed for indoor use only. Furthermore, to avoid damage to the module, it should be cleaned with a soft, nonmetallic brush to remove dust while other contaminants should be removed using deionized water. Most importantly, the device must be completely dry before it is put to use.
